Slightly Spoilery Synopsis

Mainly for crosscanon interactions. Ysayle was given an ability called the "Echo" at a very young age which allows her to catch glimpses into the memories of those around her. Due to this she was able to see the memories of soldiers and dragons, a species that her people had been at war against for 1000 years.

She eventually dedicated herself to trying to find a peaceful end to the Dragonsong War and because of it was labeled a heretic and exiled. Since then she has dedicated everything to establishing peace, often siding herself more with dragons.

Headcanon

HISTORY HEADCANON

❄ Ysayle was born in Falcon's Nest which is described as having been a barracks town. This means she grew up seeing soldiers come and go and that left an impact on it as she would often see the families of these soldiers grieving.

❄ Her family were not soldiers themselves but farmers and animal handlers (mainly falcons and chocobo). They sometimes visited Tailfeather when trading or purchasing chocobo to bring back to the barracks to train and give to soldiers. It's why she has a soft spot for animals.

❄ She received the Echo and her visions as a child, roughly 5 years of age and due to Ishgard's insular nature had no means of finding out what it was till much later in life. This is what led her to believe that most of what she was seeing were memories.

❄ Her parents were God-fearing people and didn't approve of it, they knew that if the Holy See caught wind of a child speaking of visions that they would not be happy so they cautioned her to keep quiet about it. She listened but it led to her being a rather hermetic and quiet child, resulting in her only really having one friend: Amelie.

❄ When the Calamity happened Falcon's Nest was destroyed and its people tried to seek refuge in Ishgard. When they were denied they tried instead to make their way to Tail Feather and during this time an avalanche occurred, and from this disaster Ysayle was the only survivor. It was during this time that her ability to wield ice magic was born would of sheer necessity for her to survive, and it, her will, and Hydaelyn's protection were what made her able to make the long trek alone to find shelter in Tail Feather. She was roughly 17 at this time. (I imagine ARR took at least 2 years realistically).

❄ The magic also gives her an immunity to the cold. IDK how else she can walk around Coerthas with thighs and chest exposed without dying if she doesn't have that to some degree.

(new) ❄ Given the timing of the avalanche and her powers manifesting a part of Ysayle has always wondered if the avalanche was her doing, and she carries that guilt with her.

(new) ❄ Also because of the avalanche she has a pretty severe fear of enclosed spaces after being trapped under the snow, and earthquakes.

❄ Here she threw herself into learning how to hunt and fight in order to earn her keep and distract herself from her loss. It was during this time she came across Hraesvelgr and when she fully became deluded about being the reincarnation of Shiva. This is also where she learned the full truth of the war's origins and when she decided to dedicate her life entirely into ending the war.

PERSONALITY HEADCANONS

❄ Kuudere

❄ Ok but no really, the moniker given to her isn't wholly fitting. While she is definitely not timid or the sort of wear her heart on her sleeve Ysayle is still a very compassionate person. She still has the Ishgardian disposition of being reserved given to her as a child but she's heartfelt and honest about that even if she doesn't always express it. Due to said Ishgardian disposition and always having to be careful about who she trusted once she was labeled a heretic she keeps her cards close to her chest but she's easily moved by the needs of others.

❄ She's pretty straight forward and while she is actually very good as lies and deception when need but she absolutely abhors it and much like violence will only ever use it as a last resort.

❄ Ysayle has a one track mind. During her entire adult life (and more she's only god damn 24, wtf Squeenix) the only thing she thought of was ending the war. Her own needs did not matter and she very often only thought about the future and not the present which is what led to her making some rather poor judgments and decisions. Because of this she has lost much of a sense of self and has only ever thought of herself as Shiva and a person meant to sacrifice her life for the war. This means any scenario post war will have her pretty lost.

❄ Somewhat continuing the latter if you ask her about herself she won't really know what to say. Favorite foods? Pastimes/Hobbies? She'll be at a loss.

(new) ❄ She's secretly a pretty playful person but life has taught her to put up a front in order to look strong for both her enemies and her allies. So even she doesn't know that she enjoys playing around.

SEXUALITY HEADCANONS

❄ I play her as demisexual/panromantic with a lean towards feminine figures.

❄ That said since for a good portion of her life she saw herself as Shiva she had it in her mind that Hraesvelgr was her one and only so she never really thought of love and sex beyond that so when he rightfully went wtf at her all thoughts of that left. So she doesn't really have any experience in either regard.

❄ I think she would be much more reserved when it came to any sort of emotional intimacy as opposed to physical. After having been given enough time to come to her own and come to terms with having no real connection to Shiva or Hraesvelgr I think she'd yearn for physical comfort and connection. She'd be neither debilitatingly shy or gung-ho about sex.

❄ TLDR love is most intimidating to her than sex though she has experience with neither.

(new) ❄ She's got a poker face like no other and on the surface can keep her cool but she can a little nervous when it comes to intimacy, more so emotional.

Default: She survives and either becomes a Scion and companion to the WoL, following them through all following storyline and fighting by their side OR becomes a representative for the dragons of Coerthas and Dravinia, serving as a sort of ambassador for them and her fellow heretics. Will pick whichever would be more suitable depending on who she is playing against.
